Skills Training College’s security courses are the perfect way to begin your new career. Through extensive training, we’ll teach you the practical skills to apply security procedures including how to:

  • Apply risk assessment services to protect persons and security clients such as individuals, venues, major events, or establishments.

  • Enact evacuation procedures.
  • Safely remove intoxicated persons if necessary.
  • Provide emergency response first aid skills.

There are no academic prerequisites or prior learning required to enrol in CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations.

However, there are entry requirements students must meet before they can enrol in security guard training with Skills Training College. It is each student’s personal responsibility to ensure they meet these requirements.

To be eligible to enrol in our security training course you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be a fit and proper person with basic physical fitness.
  • Possess effective communication skills via written and verbal English skills.
  • Possess competent numeracy skills.
  • Have your own laptop, tablet, or other device to bring to class for the face-to-face training components.

It is also strongly recommended you first complete a criminal history check. Students may not be eligible to apply for Certificate II in Security Operations if they have been convicted of a disqualifying offence in the last 10 years or are a “close associate” of criminals.

To be eligible for our Domestic Student security course you must meet all the enrolment requirements and be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

International students wishing to enrol in our CRICOS approved security course in Brisbane must either hold a Student Visa Subclass 500 or any other temporary visa with study rights.

Subclass 500 Visa holders must also meet the following conditions to apply:

  • The Australian Department of Education has removed concurrent study from the Provider Registration and International Student Management System (PRISMS).
  • Standard 7 of the National Code restricts students from transferring in the first 6 months of their primary course of study.
  • Providers will not be able to concurrently enrol students who have not completed 6 months of their principal course of study.
  • Standard 7 conditions for release continue to apply.

For further information or if you have any questions about your eligibility please contact us directly on compliance@skillstrainingcollege.com.au

For domestic students, our Certificate II in Security Operations uses a blended delivery method combining independent, self-paced online training with in-person, practical learning.

We strongly recommend completing the online portion first to prepare for your face-to-face training. Practical classes run over fulltime hours, beginning 9am and continuing until 5pm each weekday over five days, with additional self-paced exams for you to complete at home.

Those on an international student visa must complete the entirety of this security training course in person. After two weeks of in-person training, a third week is reserved to help students work effectively to complete any outstanding assessments.

If any student has a first aid certificate they have completed prior to this security operations course and can provide evidence, they will have one less day of in-person classes to attend.

Book early, as space is limited for both our domestic and international classes.

The fee for domestic students is a single upfront payment of $599 for the entire course.

For international students the cost is $1100.

All costs include a $100 non refundable enrolment fee.

For all students there is a cancellation fee of $100. For further information on our terms and conditions for cancellation and rescheduling fees can be found here.

After completing Certificate II in Security Operations, you will be eligible to apply for a security agent licence. Applications come with additional costs which are charged by the Queensland government and not included in your course fee.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A security officer provides quality services to protect security clients, persons, clients, venues, or personal effects. They enact security procedures such as risk management, monitoring crowd behaviour for inappropriate, dangerous, or criminal activity, and apply effective communication skills to manage conflict to resolve security risk situations which could threaten the safety of people or a person’s property while complying with legal and procedural requirements. They may also be required to provide first aid if necessary.

No, not entirely. For domestic students security courses are delivered through a blended learning mode consisting of a combination of in-person practical learning and independent online study.

For international students, a security course must be completed entirely in-person.

After passing our security training course you will be eligible to apply for a QLD unarmed security officer licence. The time to process an application is at least six weeks.

You can apply online with the office of Fair Trading at this link, or download the application form here and lodge it either in person or via mail. Your application must include 100 points of formal identification including at least one of the following : passport, ImmiCard, driver’s licence, or a photo identification card. An application fee will be charged when you lodge your form; the amount is subject to change due to changes in legislation, however the current cost can be found here.

Legal and procedural requirements dictate the police need to fingerprint all security providers. After your form as been lodged the department of Fair Trading will contact you to explain and begin the fingerprinting process. Your application will then be submitted for a criminal history check.

If you decide to withdraw your application or if it is rejected, you may be entitled to a partial or full refund of any fees paid. This includes additional fees for your fingerprinting or criminal history check.

Yes. After completing your Certificate II in Security Operations, you can apply to the Queensland Office of Fair Trading for a security licence lasting for six months, one year, or three years. Approximately six weeks before your security licence is due to expire, the Queensland government will contact you with a reminder to renew your licence so you can continue to work as a security officer. Renewing your licence does not require refresher training.

Yes, in most circumstances it is possible to transfer your security agent licence to a different state. This is done through a process known as mutual recognition, of which the details and costs are different for each state. You can find out how to apply for mutual recognition by checking the government website of the state you are looking to transfer to.

Security officers are in high demand in the hospitality industry. As such, both a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) or Responsible Gambling Services (RSG) qualification complement a security training course and open up a wider range of employment opportunities for a prospective security officer.
