First Aid Course Brisbane
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
A first aid course is officially known as HLTAID011 Provide First Aid. This course is essential for learning the skills for responding to emergencies, accidents, and other life-threatening situations.
Among the emergency first aid response skills you’ll learn in one of our courses are wound cleaning and dressing, how to correctly use an Epi-Pen, the importance of the recovery position, how to provide basic emergency life support, and how to accurately describe an emergency situation over the phone to best assist emergency responders.
You’ll also learn how to safely manage:
Vomiting
Choking
Asthma
Bleeding
Anaphylaxis
Shock
Broken bones
Dislocations, fractures, sprains, and strains
Our first aid training courses consist of three (3) hours of in-person, hands-on training. Your session will consist of various readings, presentations, and practical activities, concluding with assessment activities. Upon the successful completion of your course, you’ll be awarded a nationally recognised first-aid certificate.
WHO NEEDS A FIRST AID COURSE?
Taking a first aid course is essential for anyone and everyone. It’s importance cannot be overstated. By taking a first aid course, you will be able to make a difference when it really matters. Emergencies can occur in the workplace, out on the street, or at any place or any time you can think of. Knowing first aid puts the power to step in and assist during times of crisis in your hands.
First aid is essential to any workplace. It’s not just for doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other health care workers. First aid emergencies can occur anywhere, in the office, at schools, and even at home. There’s no profession to whom first aid certificates are not beneficial in some way.
If you have already completed a first aid course consider taking further studies to ensure your skills are at their peak and that you can truly step into any first aid situation. Our other specialties include our advanced first aid course and child first aid courses.
The official name for a CPR course is HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. This course is designed to teach students how to recognise when a cardiac emergency is occurring, as well as the steps necessary to intervene safely.
CPR is one aspect of performing first aid, but it is its own discipline. The narrower focus of a CPR course is for anyone who already knows first aid but does not know CPR, or who does not have enough time to fit a full first aid course into their busy schedule but who still wants to be able to make a difference in an emergency.
When you take a CPR course you’ll learn the steps required to perform CPR, mnemonic devices to ensure you remember the steps of CPR for years after completing your course, and the differences in performing CPR for adults and children.
After your 90-minute face-to-face training course, you’ll be rewarded with a nationally recognised statement of attainment, proving your newfound skills and knowledge.
The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) strongly recommends that CPR training be retaken every twelve months to ensure that the critical skills remain second nature. If you ever find yourself in an emergency situation where CPR is required, you don’t want to struggle to remember what to do, you need the skills to be innate.

No, a first aid certificate does not expire. However, first aid is constantly changing and evolving, and as such it is strongly recommended that first aid refresher training be taken every three years to ensure that your skills and knowledge remain current.
Skills Training College offers refresher first aid courses in Brisbane to ensure your first aid experience never falls behind.
Like a first aid certificate, CPR training does not technically expire but should be updated regularly with refresher training. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends taking CPR refresher training every twelve months.
If your first aid certification is lost or stolen, simply reach out to us and we can provide you with the steps that you need to take in order to receive a replacement.
No, online training is not an option for CPR or first aid courses. Both first aid and CPR require practical skills which can only be evaluated through face-to-face training and assessment activities. As such, our first aid training Brisbane courses must be conducted on site.
Completing a CPR course is part of a first aid certification. As such, a first aid qualification can be considered further learning from a CPR course. Advanced resuscitation qualifications are another example.
Completing a first aid course opens up several avenues of further learning in the field of first aid. These advanced first-aid courses include:
HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting
HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in a remote or isolated site
HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid
HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
HLTAID016 Manage first aid services and resources
Not all of these qualifications are available through Skills Training College.
These courses are assessed through practical training and assessment activities.
First aid courses test your first aid response knowledge and first aid skills. Skills you will be tested on include your ability to provide basic emergency life support. There may also be written evaluation.
CPR assessment consists entirely of being observed on your ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Skills Training College offers the best range of first aid courses Brisbane needs. While our training venue in the city’s CBD is centrally located and easily accessible for most people, we also have training locations nearby on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.

Anyone and everyone should take a first aid or CPR course, not just medical professionals. Knowing these vital, life-saving skills can help you make a real difference on the scene of an emergency.
Outside of medical and healthcare professionals, a first aid or CPR certificate is particularly beneficial to anyone who works with children, whether it’s at home or in one of the country’s education sectors.
Emergencies can occur anywhere, even around the office. As such, we also highly recommend first aid workplace training to ensure you’re ready to assist in a first aid situation, no matter what the emergency is. First Aid and CPR training shows your commitment and passion to your workplace and can help open pathways to continuing professional development.
