Officially known as HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, this course equips students with the skills to handle any emergency or accident that life throws at them. In one of our first aid course, students learn the emergency response skills to clean and dress wounds, correctly use an Epi-Pen on someone experiencing an allergic reaction, and how to most effectively explain an emergency to emergency responders.
By the end of their course, our students are equipped to manage any of the following first aid scenarios, and more:
Vomiting
Choking
Asthma
Bleeding
Anaphylaxis
Shock
Broken bones
Dislocations, fractures, sprains, and strains
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid takes (3) hours of study and in-person training. Students will work through several readings, hands-in scenarios, and presentations to gain the skills they need. The session ends with a practical assessment administered by their expert trainer, after which students are awarded with a nationally recognised first aid certificate.
Everybody should take a HLTAID009 Provide First Aid course. Doing so can provide anyone with the skills needed to make a difference when it really matters. A life-threatening emergency can happen anywhere and at anytime, and so anyone can find themselves in a position where it’s up to them to help. Knowing first aid gives you the power to step in and provide an effective first aid response when this moment arrives.
First aid isn’t just for medical professionals. An emergency can happen in any workplace. First aid is essential for offices, schools, and even for around the house. Learning first aid can benefit everybody, regardless of where they work.
A CPR course is officially called HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. This training teaches students how to recognise when a cardiac emergency is happening and how they can safely step in to help.
CPR training is included in a first aid certificate, but it is also its own discipline. A CPR course is ideal for anyone who already knows how to provide first aid but lacks skills in CPR, who is unable to attend a full length first aid training course, or who simply wants or needs to refresh their CPR skills.
In addition to learning CPR, these courses teach students the skills needed to remember the seven steps of CPR under the pressure of a real life emergency situation. Students also learn the different kinds of CPR, and how to adjust their technique based on whether their patient is an adult or a child. After completing this 90 minute course, students are awarded with a nationally recognised statement of attainment.
The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) recommends refresher CPR training every twelve months in order to keep the skills as second nature and to stay up-to-date with the latest techniques. In a real life CPR emergency, it’s vital to be able to act without thinking, rather than struggling to remember. A fresher course helps eliminate this challenge.
At Skills Training College, we believe that everybody should have access to first aid and CPR training so that anybody can save a life. As such, it’s easy to enrol in one of our courses. There are virtually no entry requirements, and there are zero academic or professional prerequisites students need to have. To enrol in one of our first aid or CPR courses, students simply need to meet the following basic criteria:
All students will need to possess basic skills in both written and verbal English. Our courses are conducted entirely in English, and students will need a fundamental grasp of the language to engage with the course materials.
Students must be at least 14 years old to enrol. Students younger than 18 years old will need to provide appropriate permission from a parent or guardian.
All students will need to acquire a Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number. Students who have studied previously in Australia will already have one, which they can find by looking it up online.
Students will need basic levels of physical fitness to complete the practical training tasks.

First aid courses do not technically expire. However, as it is a constantly evolving discipline and new practices and techniques are being developed all the time, first aid training is considered out-of-date after three years. At this time, it is highly recommended you take a first aid refresher training course to keep your certification relevant and to ensure you’re aware of the latest, and best life-saving techniques.
Yes, partially. Among our course delivery methods are online training and hybrid options. However, even these require a certain amount of in-person training and assessment.
As with a first aid certificate, a CPR certificate does not technically expire, but it does require refresher training. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommend yearly CPR refresher training.
If the event that your first aid certification is lost, damaged, or stolen, getting a replacement is easy. Simply reach out to us via our contact page, and we’ll provide you with the steps you need to take for us to send you a replacement certificate.
First and and CPR are assessed through practical tasks. First aid courses test you on your ability to provide life support to someone in need in realistic scenarios, and there may also be a written component. CPR is assessed by your trainer and entirely depends on your ability to provide CPR.
