Taking a first aid course is essential for anyone and everyone. Its importance cannot be overstated. By taking a first aid course, you can make a difference when it really matters. Emergencies can occur in the workplace, out on the street or any place or any time you can think of. Knowing first aid puts the power to step in and assist during times of crisis in your hands.

First aid is essential to any workplace, and for any person. It’s not just for doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other healthcare workers. First aid emergencies can occur anywhere, be it in the office, at schools, and even at home. There’s no profession to whom first aid certificates are not beneficial.

A medical crisis can happen unexpectedly and without knowing these skills, your ability to assist will be curtailed. During these critical moments, there is no time to search for first aid instructions online. You must already possess this knowledge, and the only way to acquire it is by enrolling in a course.

If you have already completed a first aid course consider taking further studies to ensure your skills are at their peak so that you can truly step in and help in any first aid situation. Some of our other specialties include our advanced first aid course and child first aid courses.

CPR Course Canning Vale

The course is officially called HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. Its objective is to teach students to recognise a cardiac emergency and take the necessary steps to safely intervene.

CPR is a crucial aspect of first aid and requires its own set of skills and knowledge. The course is for individuals who already know first aid but need to learn CPR, or who have a busy schedule which doesn’t allow them to take a full course.

During the course, students learn the steps required to provide CPR confidently, use mnemonic devices to remember the steps required, and come to understand the differences in performing CPR for adults and children.

After completing the 90-minute face-to-face training, you will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment, proving your skills and knowledge.

Canning Vale CPR Refresher Course

The Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines strongly recommend that HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation training be retaken every twelve months to make sure that your knowledge of CPR techniques remains up-to-date.

Many organisations will require employees take regular refresher training to adhere to their first aid compliance. If you ever find yourself in an emergency situation where you need to provide CPR then you need this skill to be second nature.

Enrolment & Eligibility

Skills Training College’s courses in first aid and CPR have virtually no entry requirements for students. There are no previous academic or professional qualifications necessary to enrol. However, all students must meet the following minimum criteria to enrol in a first aid course:

  • Basic written and verbal English is needed to engage with the course materials and complete the training and assessment activities.
  • Students must be at least 14 years of age. Any student under the age of 18 must submit a signed Parental Consent Form at least 48 hours before commencement of training.
  • Students require a Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number. If you’ve studied before you may already have one which you can find by searching online.
  • Basic levels of fitness and physical ability.

No, a first aid certificate does not expire. However, first aid is constantly changing and evolving, and as such it is strongly recommended that first aid refresher training be taken every three years to ensure that your skills and knowledge remain current.

CPR training does not technically expire but should be updated regularly with refresher training. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends taking CPR refresher training every twelve months.

Skills Training College offers refresher courses to ensure your first aid experience never falls behind.

If your first aid certification is lost or stolen, simply reach out to us and we can provide you with the steps that you need to take in order to receive a replacement first aid training certificate.

First aid instruction is assessed through practical assessment activities.

To ensure you have the knowledge required, after a first aid course we test your emergency first aid response knowledge and first aid skills. After completing your face-to-face training, skills you will be tested on include your ability to respond effectively and provide basic emergency life support, your ability and knowledge of first aid techniques, your emergency first aid response skills, and your ability to provide first aid assistance in a realistic first aid emergency. There may also be a written evaluation.

CPR assessment consists entirely of observing your ability to perform CPR under supervision.

Anyone and everyone should take a first aid or CPR course, not just medical professionals. Knowing these vital, life-saving skills can help you make a real difference.

Outside of medical and healthcare professionals, a first aid certificate is particularly beneficial to anyone who works in child care, whether it’s at home or education workers in a school.

Emergencies can occur anywhere, even around the office. As such, we also highly recommend first aid workplace training to ensure you’re ready to assist in a first aid situation, no matter what the situation is. First aid and CPR training shows your commitment and passion to your workplace, and can help open pathways to continuing professional development. First aid classes really are for everyone.

Completing CPR is part of a first aid certification. As such, our first aid qualification can be considered further learning from CPR.

Completing an emergency first aid course opens up several avenues of further learning in the field of first aid. Further education opportunities are available in the fields of remote first aid, and first aid for education and care settings. Specific examples include:

  • HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting
  • HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in a remote or isolated site
  • HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid
  • HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
  • HLTAID016 Manage first aid services and resources

Not all of these qualifications are available through Skills Training College.

Skills Training College has locations across Western Australia as well as the rest of the country, all of which offer first aid & CPR courses, security courses, barista courses and more.

A first aid course has no dress code. Feel free to show up dressed as casually or as formally as you feel most comfortable. Do keep in mind that you will be working with other people, and that you will be required to move about and get on the floor when considering appropriate clothing.
