FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Security guards provide quality services to protect security clients, persons, clients, venues, or personal effects. They enact security procedures such as risk assessment, monitoring crowd behaviour for inappropriate, dangerous, or criminal activity, and using effective communication skills to manage conflict to resolve security risk situations that could threaten the safety of people or a person’s property while complying with legal and procedural requirements. They may also be required to deliver first aid when necessary.

No, not entirely. CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations is delivered through a blended learning mode consisting of a combination of in-person practical learning and an independent online component.

After passing our security training course you will be eligible to apply for a QLD unarmed security officer licence. The time to process an application is at least six weeks.

You can apply online with the department of Fair Trading at this link, or download the application form here and lodge it either in person or via mail. Your application must include 100 points of formal identification including at least one of the following : passport, ImmiCard, driver’s licence, or a photo identification card. An application fee will be charged when you lodge your form; the amount is subject to change due to changes in legislation, however the current cost can be found here.

Legal and procedural requirements dictate the police need to fingerprint all security providers. After your form as been lodged the department of Fair Trading will contact you to explain and begin the fingerprinting process. Your application will then be submitted for a criminal history check.

If you decide to withdraw your application or if it is rejected, you may be entitled to a partial or full refund of any fees paid. This includes additional fees for your fingerprinting or criminal check.

Yes. After completing your Certificate II in Security Operations, you can apply to the Queensland Office of Fair Trading for a security licence lasting for six months, one year, or three years. Approximately six weeks before your security licence is due to expire, the Queensland government will contact you with a reminder to renew your licence so you can continue to work as a security officer. Renewing your licence does not require refresher training.

Yes, in most circumstances it is possible to transfer your security licence to a different state. This is done through a process known as mutual recognition, of which the details and costs are different for each state. You can find out how to apply for mutual recognition by checking the government website of the state you are looking to transfer to.

Security officers are in high demand in the South East Queensland hospitality industry. As such, both a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) or Responsible Gambling Services (RSG) qualification compliment a security training course and open up a wider range of employment opportunities for a prospective security officer.
