White Card COURSE OVERVIEW

CPCWHS1001: Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry is the official qualification needed to commence construction work on a construction site Australia-wide.

Over a comprehensive 6-hour training, you’ll dive into essential topics like workplace health and safety regulations, hazard identification, risk assessment, and effective health and safety reporting processes. Our interactive approach combines written assessments, oral presentations, and practical demonstrations, ensuring you’re fully equipped to handle OHS incidents and emergency procedures.

What sets our course apart is its focus on real-world application. You’ll learn the practical use of personal protective equipment (PPE) – from hard hats to hi-vis vests – and understand their significance in maintaining a safe work environment.

COURSE CURRICULUM

ELIGIBILITY & ENROLMENT

Enrolment in the white card course requires no prior academic qualifications, making it an ideal choice for individuals new to the industry or those planning to enter it.

However, certain basic White Card training prerequisites must be fulfilled for enrolment, and it is the responsibility of each student to ensure they meet these criteria. All students must fulfil:

  • Be 14 years old or over. Any student under the age of 18 must submit a Parental Consent Form before commencing training.
  • All students will require a USI Number before enroling. To create your Free USI number visit www.usi.gov.au.
  • Present Photo ID on the day
  • Permit a photo on the day of head, neck, and shoulders
  • Be able to locate and recognise numbers commonly used in safety signs.
  • Communicate effectively by asking questions to clarify instructions and pointing out a construction problem or hazard.
  • Read and follow simple pictorial safety instructions and simple safety instructions written in English.
  • Notify the office if you need any additional literacy or numeracy support
  • Complete pre-course learning and pre-course quiz
  • Currently enrolled in a principal course through a registered CRICOS provider
  • Student visa allowing enrolment to another short course (check with the Department of Home Affairs prior to enrolment)
  • Must meet the minimum language skills requirements as outlined in Migration (IMMI 18/015: English Language Tests and evidence Exemptions for Subclass 500 (Student) Visa) Instrument 2018
  • Pass LLN assessment provided by Skills Training College before enrolling where English Language Tests and Evidence Exemptions apply

COURSE DELIVERY

At Skills Training College, we place a high value on interactive, hands-on learning experiences. Our CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the Construction industry course is designed as an entirely on-site program, featuring a comprehensive full-day session (6 hours) at our modern training centre.

This program encompasses all knowledge and assessment aspects of the course, including:

  • Practical Demonstrations: Engaging in role-playing and simulated scenarios.
  • Knowledge Assessment: A series of multiple-choice questions covering the entire scope of construction safety Knowledge.
  • Project Work: Participants are required to demonstrate their ability to adhere to workplace procedures in executing safety risk assessment and management scenarios. 
  • In addition, you will learn when and how to use personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hats, eye protection, hearing protection and hi-vis vests.

  • Grenfell St: Issued on the day of training, except weekends (weekend course cards available on Wednesday between 2:00pm & 4:00pm).

  • Morphett Vale – STC Morphett Vale: Issued on the day of training, except weekends (pick up available on Wednesday between 2:00pm & 4:00pm).

  • Salisbury: Pick up at Level 2/45 Grenfell Street, Adelaide, SA, 5000, after 48 hours of course delivery. For a White Card replacement, contact us. The replacement cost is $50, and it can be arranged for pick-up at one of our locations.

If your white card is lost or damaged you can request a replacement card by contacting us. The cost of a White Card replacement is $50 which you can arrange to be picked up at one of our locations.

This fee includes comprehensive training led by experienced instructors, course materials, and the issuance of your nationally recognised White Card upon successful completion.
