WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

Did you know that a first aid course is officially known as HLTAID011 Provide First Aid? It’s an essential training that teaches you the skills required to respond to emergencies, accidents, and other life-threatening situations. During the course, you’ll learn a range of emergency first aid response skills, including wound cleaning and dressing, correct use of an Epi-Pen, the importance of the recovery position, how to provide basic emergency life support, and how to accurately describe an emergency over the phone to best assist emergency responders.

You’ll also learn how to safely manage the following first aid situations:

  • Vomiting
  • Choking
  • Asthma
  • Bleeding
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Shock
  • Broken bones
  • Dislocations, fractures, sprains, and strains

Our first aid training courses involve three hours of in-person, hands-on training. During the session, you will be provided with various readings, presentations, and practical activities, followed by assessment activities. Once you complete the training, you will receive a nationally recognised first aid certificate.

WHO NEEDS A FIRST AID COURSE?

Everyone must take a first aid course. The significance of learning first aid cannot be overstated. By enrolling in a first aid course, you can be the difference-maker when it matters the most. Emergencies can arise at any time and in any place – at work, on the street, or elsewhere. Knowing first aid skills equips you with the power to intervene and assist during times of crisis.

First aid is crucial for every workplace and not just limited to healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses, and paramedics. Emergencies can happen anywhere, be it at the office, school, or home. Possessing first aid certificates can be advantageous for professionals in any field.

If you have already completed a first aid course consider taking further studies to ensure your skills are at their peak and that you can truly step into any first aid situation. Our other specialties include our advanced first aid course and child first aid courses.

CPR Course Sorell

The CPR course is called Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and teaches students how to recognise cardiac emergencies and safely intervene.

Performing CPR is a crucial element of providing first aid. A CPR course is specifically designed for those who have knowledge of first aid but lack CPR skills, or for those who have busy schedules and cannot attend a full first aid course. This course equips individuals with the knowledge and skills to make a difference in emergencies.

When you take a CPR course, you will learn the necessary steps to perform CPR, including mnemonic devices that will help you remember the steps for years to come. You will also learn the differences between performing CPR on adults and children. After completing the 90-minute face-to-face training course, you will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment, demonstrating your newly acquired skills and knowledge.

Skills Training College’s Sorell CPR courses are conducted from our training venue at 11 Parsonage Pl, Sorell. We also offer training from our other locations in Tasmania including Glenorchy, Kingston, Launceston and North Hobart. Our first aid courses are available for $39 per person.

Sorell CPR Refresher Course

The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) highly recommends that one should retake CPR training every twelve months. This ensures that critical skills remain second nature. In case of an emergency that requires CPR, one shouldn’t struggle to remember what to do – the skills need to be innate.

A CPR refresher course is the same as a regular CPR course in every regard. Courses last 90 minutes, cost $39 per person, and are conducted from our training room at 11 Parsonage Pl, Sorell.

Enrolment & Eligibility

Skills Training College’s courses in first aid and CPR have virtually no entry requirements. There are no previous academic or professional qualifications necessary to enrol.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

No, a first aid certificate does not expire. However, first aid is constantly changing and evolving, and as such it is strongly recommended that first aid refresher training be taken every three years to ensure that your skills and knowledge remain current.

Skills Training College offers refresher first aid courses in Sorell to ensure your first aid experience never falls behind.

The Skills Training College class can take just a few hours in person but does have online components that can be completed online prior to beginning your in-person training.

The main focus is on the DRSABCD Action Plan for emergency response. It involves managing breathing injuries, performing CPR, using defibrillators, controlling infections, and addressing legal aspects of first aid. The plan also includes strategies for managing traumatic breathing injuries.

Completing a CPR course is part of a first aid certification. As such, a first aid qualification can be considered further learning from a CPR course. Advanced resuscitation qualifications are another example.

Completing a first aid course opens up several avenues of further learning in the field of first aid. These advanced first aid courses include:

  • HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting
  • HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in a remote or isolated site
  • HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid
  • HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
