The responsibilities of a disability support worker are vast and varied. Their specific duties will depend on their employer, the legal and ethical frameworks their organisation, and how much responsibility they’ve been assigned within their disability support work context.
Generally speaking, a disability support worker assists patients living with disability with their daily tasks, such as dressing, grooming, and eating. Through established, person-centred behaviour, they provide direct client care which supports their patients’ physical and emotional wellbeing, and help them manage the symptoms and challenges associated with their disability, such as the need to apply basic infection prevention and control principles.
