A first aid course is officially known as HLTAID011 Provide First Aid. Ours is the perfect first aid course for learning the skills for responding to emergencies, accidents, and other life-threatening situations.
Working with your first aid trainer, among the emergency first aid response skills you’ll learn in one of our courses are wound cleaning and dressing, how to correctly use an Epi-Pen, the importance of the recovery position, how to provide basic emergency life support, and how to accurately describe an emergency situation over the phone to best assist emergency responders.
You’ll also learn how to safely manage the following first-aid situations:
Our first aid training course duration is three (3) hours of in-person, hands-on training. Your session will consist of various readings, presentations, and practical activities, concluding with assessment activities. Upon your successful completion, you will be awarded with a nationally recognised first aid certificate.
Taking a basic first aid course is essential for both anyone and everyone. It’s importance cannot be overstated. By taking a first aid course, you will be able to make a difference when it really matters.
Emergencies can occur in the workplace, out on the street, any place or any time you can think of. Knowing first aid puts the power to step in and assist in your hands.
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is essential to any workplace. It’s not just for doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other healthcare workers. First aid emergencies can occur anywhere, in the office, at schools, and even at home. There’s no profession to whom first aid certificates are not beneficial in some way.
If you have already completed a first aid course consider taking further studies to ensure your skills are at their peak and that you can truly step into any first aid situation. Our other specialties include our advanced first aid course and child first aid courses.
The official name for this course is HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. This course is designed to teach students to recognise when a cardiac emergency is occurring, as well as the steps necessary to intervene safely.
CPR is one aspect performing first aid, but it is its own discipline. The narrower focus of a HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation course is for anyone who already knows first aid but does not know CPR, or who does not have the time to fit a full course into their busy schedule but who still wants to be able to make a difference in an emergency.
When you take a HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation course you’ll learn the steps required to confidently provide CPR, mnemonic devices to ensure you remembers the steps of CPR for years after completing your course, and the differences in performing CPR for adults and for children.
After your 90 minute face-to-face training course, you’ll be rewarded with a nationally recognised statement of attainment, proving your newfound skills and knowledge.
The Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines strongly recommend that HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation training be retaken every twelve months to ensure you never lose your knowledge of how to provide advanced resuscitation techniques. If you ever find yourself in an emergency situation where CPR is required, you don’t want to struggle to remember what to do, you need the skills to be innate.
Skills Training College’s courses in first aid and CPR have virtually no entry requirements for students. There are no previous academic or professional qualifications necessary to enrol. However, all students must meet the following minimum criteria to enrol in a first aid course:

No, a first aid certificate does not expire. However, first aid is constantly changing and evolving, and as such it is strongly recommended that refresher training be taken every three years to ensure that your skills and knowledge remain current.
Skills Training College offers refresher courses to ensure your first aid experience never falls behind.
Like a first aid certificate, CPR training does not technically expire but should be updated regularly with refresher training. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends taking CPR refresher training every twelve months.
If your first aid certification is lost or stolen, simply reach out to us and we can provide you with the steps that you need to take in order to receive a replacement first aid training certificate.
No, online training is not an option for CPR or first aid. Both first aid and CPR require practical skills which can only be evaluated through face-to-face, onsite training and assessment activities. As such, our first aid training must be conducted on site and we cannot offer an online first aid course.
These courses are assessed through practical assessment activities.
At the conclusion of a first aid course we test your first aid response knowledge and first aid skills. After completing your face-to-face training, skills you will be tested on include your ability to provide basic emergency life support and render medical assistance, your ability and knowledge of first aid techniques, and your ability to provide first aid assistance in a realistic first aid emergency. There may also be written evaluation.
CPR assessment consists entirely of being observed on your ability to perform CPR under supervision.
Anyone and everyone should take a first aid or CPR course, not just medical professionals. Knowing these vital, life-saving skills can help you make a real difference.
Outside of medical and healthcare professionals, a first aid certificate is particularly beneficial to anyone who works with children, whether it’s at home or in one of the country’s education sectors.
Emergencies can occur anywhere, even around the office. As such, we also highly recommend first aid workplace training to ensure you’re ready to assist in a first aid situation, no matter what the situation is. First aid and CPR training shows your commitment and passion to your workplace, and can help open pathways to continuing professional development.
Completing CPR is part of a first aid certification. As such, a first aid qualification can be considered further learning from CPR. Advanced resuscitation qualifications are another example.
Completing an emergency first aid course opens up several avenues of further learning in the field of first aid. Further education opportunities are available in the fields of remote first aid, and first aid for education and care settings. Specific examples include:
HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting
HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in a remote or isolated site
