West Lakes - West Lakes

This course, officially known as HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, teaches students how to recognise sudden cardiac arrest and correctly perform resuscitation on individuals in need.

While CPR is included in first aid training, it is also a distinct and independent field. A CPR course is an excellent choice if you want to assist in emergencies but lack CPR skills, or if a full first aid course doesn’t fit into your busy schedule.

In a CPR course, you will learn how to treat unconscious victims of all ages, including the differences between performing CPR on adults and children. After the ninety-minute in-person session, you will receive a statement of attainment that is recognised across Australia.

For the most current CPR techniques, the Australian Resuscitation Council recommends annual CPR refresher training. Many organisations also require periodic retraining for employees to ensure compliance with their first aid regulations.

In an emergency, you should be able to perform CPR instinctively and confidently. Refresher training helps reinforce these techniques, making sure they remain second nature.

The prerequisites for enrolling in Skills Training College’s first aid and CPR courses are minimal. Enrollment does not require specific academic or professional qualifications. However, all students must meet the following basic requirements:

  • Proficiency in basic spoken and written English for course materials, instruction, and assessment activities.
  • The minimum age for students is eighteen, although younger applicants may enrol with appropriate permission from their parents or guardians.
  • A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required for all students. If you have studied before, you should already have one; if not, you can easily obtain one online.
  • Basic levels of physical ability to perform CPR.

While a first-aid certificate does not expire, it is advisable to refresh your skills regularly through accredited training. As first aid protocols continuously evolve, it is highly recommended to undergo refresher training every three years to keep your knowledge, abilities, and qualifications up to date.

Skills Training College offers first aid refresher classes to ensure your training and expertise remain current and relevant.

A CPR certificate does not expire but needs to be maintained with regular refresher training. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends annual CPR refresher courses.

If you have misplaced or lost your first aid or CPR certificate, contact us, and we will assist you in obtaining a replacement.

While our courses include online theory components that can be completed at your convenience, both first aid and CPR require practical skills that can only be assessed through in-person training and evaluation. Therefore, our first aid training courses in West Lakes must be completed on-site.
