WHO NEEDS A FIRST AID COURSE?
Learning first aid is highly important for everyone. By taking a first aid course, you’ll be able to provide basic emergency life support, making a significant difference when it’s most needed.
Emergencies can arise in the workplace, on the street, in schools, or anywhere you can imagine, at any time. Having first aid knowledge gives you the power to step in and help.
The HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course is essential in any workplace. It’s not exclusive to healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses, and paramedics. Every workplace can find value in having first aid certified staff.
The HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation course’s primary goal is to teach students how to recognise cardiac emergencies and take the necessary steps to intervene safely.
CPR is a critical part of first aid, requiring specific skills and understanding. This course is designed for those who are already familiar with first aid but need to learn CPR or have a busy schedule that prevents them from taking a full course.
In the course, you’ll learn how to confidently perform CPR, use mnemonic devices to retain the steps, and understand how CPR differs for adults and children. Upon completion of the 90-minute face-to-face training, you will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment, certifying your skills and knowledge.
The Australian Resuscitation Council advises that the HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation training be refreshed every twelve months to keep your CPR knowledge up-to-date.
Many organisations require this annual refresher to meet first aid compliance standards. In an emergency where CPR is needed, you want your skills to be sharp and current and you don’t want to have to try and remember what you learnt years ago.

No, a first aid certificate doesn’t expire. But since first aid methods are always improving, Health Authorities like the Australian Resuscitation Council strongly recommends to take refresher training every three years to keep your skills and knowledge current.
Skills Training College provides refresher courses to ensure your first aid training stays up to date.
CPR training does not technically expire but should be updated regularly with refresher training. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends taking CPR refresher training every twelve months.

Completing CPR is part of a first aid certification. As such, our first aid qualification can be considered further learning from CPR.
Completing a first aid course opens up several avenues of further learning in the field of first aid. Further education opportunities are available in the fields of remote first aid, and first aid for education and care settings. Specific examples include:
HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting
HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in a remote or isolated site
HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid
HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
HLTAID016 Manage first aid services and resources
Not all of these qualifications are available through Skills Training College.
First aid instruction is assessed through practical assessment activities. To ensure you have the knowledge required, at the conclusion of a first aid course we test your emergency first aid response knowledge and first aid skills.
After completing your face-to-face training, skills you will be tested on include your ability to respond effectively and provide basic emergency life support, your ability and knowledge of first aid techniques, your emergency first aid response skills, and your ability to provide first aid assistance in a realistic first aid emergency. There may also be written evaluation. CPR assessment consists entirely of being observed on your ability to perform CPR under supervision.

Anyone and everyone should take a first aid or CPR course, not just medical professionals. Knowing these vital, life-saving skills can help you make a real difference.
Outside of medical and healthcare professionals, a first aid certificate is particularly beneficial to anyone who works in child care, whether it’s at home or education workers in a school.
Emergencies can occur anywhere, even around the office. As such, we also highly recommend first aid workplace training to ensure you’re ready to assist in a first aid situation, no matter what the situation is. First aid and CPR training shows your commitment and passion to your workplace, and can help open pathways to continuing professional development.
