HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is the ideal course for anyone interested in gaining first aid knowledge. The skills you’ll learn during this course include those required to respond to emergencies, accidents, and other life-threatening circumstances.
You and your teacher will go over all the basic emergency life support skills that you need to be able to help in almost any first aid emergency. Some of these are how to clean and bandage a wound, how to use an Epi-Pen correctly, how important the recovery position is, and how to correctly describe an emergency over the phone for emergency workers.
You’ll also learn how to safely handle the following first-aid scenarios:
Vomiting
Choking
Asthma
Bleeding
Anaphylaxis
Shock
Broken bones
Dislocations, fractures, sprains, and strains
Our first aid training course takes place over three (3) hours. Your session will include readings, presentations, and practical tasks, followed by an evaluation. After successfully completing the course, you will receive a nationally recognised first-aid certificate.
The value of first aid cannot be overemphasised. By taking a first aid course, you will be prepared to make a difference when it is most needed. Emergencies can occur anywhere and at any time. By taking one of these courses, you’ll be prepared to render first aid services to a person in need when something goes wrong.
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is crucial for any job. It’s not just for doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other healthcare professionals. There is no career where first aid is not useful in some way.
The official name of this course is HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. Throughout this course, students will learn how to recognise cardiac arrest and deliver resuscitation.
CPR skill training is already incorporated in first aid courses, but it is also a distinct speciality in and of itself. CPR training courses are best for anyone who already knows first aid or is unable to fit a complete first aid course into their schedule but still want to help in an emergency.
A CPR training course will teach you how to perform CPR on both adults and children. After completing the 90-minute course, you will get a nationally recognised declaration of attainment.
The Australian Resuscitation Council advises HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation should be retaken every twelve months to ensure your understanding of CPR procedures stays current. Should you ever be in an emergency where you need to perform CPR, you need the abilities to be second nature.

In Australia, First Aid certificates don’t technically expire, but they do need to be renewed regularly to remain current. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends renewing the full first aid certificate (HLTAID011 Provide First Aid) every three years.
As with first aid, CPR certificates do not technically expire in Australia. However, HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation should be renewed annually to ensure skills remain up-to-date with the latest techniques and guidelines.
Your first step should be to contact the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that issued your certificate, as they can provide you with a replacement.
While some components of First Aid and CPR courses can be completed online, the practical assessment must be conducted in person. Skills Training College offers blended learning options, where students can complete the theoretical portion of the course online at their own pace.
First Aid and CPR courses are assessed through practical demonstrations. Assessment requires students to demonstrate their ability to perform various first aid techniques, including CPR, wound management, and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), under the supervision their trainer.
A wide range of professionals are required to hold current First Aid or CPR certificates as part of their job requirements, including teachers, childcare workers, fitness instructors, and many healthcare professionals. Additionally, certain industries such as construction, mining, and hospitality often mandate first aid certification for specific roles to ensure workplace safety and compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
In addition to the inherent ongoing professional development, completing a first aid course opens up chances for further learning in the field of first aid. Examples include:
HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in Educational and Care Settings.
HLTAID013 Provide first aid at a remote or isolated location.
HLTAID014 provides advanced first aid.
HLTAID015 provides advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy.
