A security guard’s occupational services include protecting clients, venues, or personal effects. No, not entirely. CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations is delivered through a blended learning mode consisting of a combination of in-person practical learning and independent online study.

After passing our security course you will be eligible to apply for a security employee licence. The average time to process an application is at least six weeks.

The application process can be begun online through the office of Consumer, Building and Occupational Services at this link. Click the Apply for a licence button to fill out your details and begin the application process. After your application form has been completed you will need to perform the following steps:

  • Prove your identity and have your photo taken at a Service Tasmania shop.
  • Have your fingerprints taken at a Tasmania police station.
  • Give consent to the Office of Consumer, Building and Occupational Services to perform a National Criminal History Check.
  • Upload your identifying documents and training qualifications to the Office of Consumer, Building and Occupational Services.
  • Pay the licensing fees.

Yes. In Tasmania a security employee licence lasts for three tears, after which it must be renewed. You will receive a renew reminder notice in the mail approximately eight weeks before your licence is set to expire. It is every licence holder’s own responsibility to ensure they renew their licence.

Yes, in most circumstances it is possible to transfer your security licence to a different state. This is done through a process known as mutual recognition, of which the details and costs are different for each state. You can find out how to apply for mutual recognition by checking the government website of the state you are looking to transfer to.

Security officers are in high demand in the hospitality industry. As such, both a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) or Responsible Gambling Services (RSG) qualification complement a security course and open up a wider range of employment opportunities.
