WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
The first aid course is officially known as “HLTAID011 Provide First Aid.” This course is essential for learning how to respond to emergencies, accidents, and other life-threatening situations. In this course, you will acquire various emergency first aid response skills, such as wound cleaning and dressing, proper usage of an Epi-Pen, the importance of the recovery position, providing basic emergency life support, and accurately describing an emergency over the phone to assist emergency responders in the best way possible.
You’ll also learn how to safely manage the following first aid situations:
- Vomiting
- Choking
- Asthma
- Bleeding
- Anaphylaxis
- Shock
- Broken bones
- Dislocations, fractures, sprains, and strains
Our first aid training courses consist of three (3) hours of in-person, practical training, which includes reading materials, presentations, and hands-on activities. The session will end with assessment activities. Upon your successful completion of the training, you will be awarded a nationally recognised first aid certificate.
A medical emergency can occur at any time and you can help if you know practical first aid and CPR skills. You might be unable to look up how to perform first aid, you need to already know and the only way to know is by taking a course.

CPR Course Midland
The official name of our CPR course is “HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.” This course teaches students how to recognise and safely intervene in a cardiac emergency.
Performing CPR is a crucial part of administering first aid, but it is a distinct skill that requires separate training. A CPR course is specifically designed for individuals who already possess a basic understanding of first aid, but lack knowledge of CPR or are unable to undergo full first aid training. This allows them to acquire the necessary skills to provide life-saving assistance in emergencies.
When you enrol in our course, you will learn how to perform CPR step by step. You will also be taught mnemonic devices that will help you remember the CPR steps for years to come. Additionally, you will be taught the differences between performing CPR on adults and children. After completing the 90-minute face-to-face training course, you will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment that proves your newly acquired skills.
Skills Training College’s Midland CPR courses are conducted from our training venue at 8 Stafford Street, Midland. We also offer training from our other locations in Armadale, Fremantle, Gosnells, Innaloo, Joondalup, Welshpool, Osborne Park, Perth, Rockingham and Subiaco. Our first aid courses are available for $39 per person.
Midland CPR Refresher Course
The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) suggests that individuals in relevant fields should refresh or retake their CPR training every twelve months. This is to ensure that the critical skills remain reflexive, and in case of an emergency, one should not struggle, as their CPR skills must be instinctive.
A CPR refresher course is the same as a regular CPR course in every regard. Courses last for 90 minutes, cost $39 per person, and are conducted from our training room at 8 Stafford Street, Midland.
Enrolment & Eligibility
Skills Training College’s courses in first aid and CPR have very few entry requirements such as zero previous academic or professional qualifications necessary for enrolment.
However, all students must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Basic written and verbal English is needed to engage with the course materials and complete the training and assessment activities.
- All students must be 18 years old or provide acceptable permission from a parent or guardian.
- Students require a Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number. If you’ve studied before you may already have one which you can find by searching online.
- Basic levels of fitness and physical ability.

How long does a first aid certificate last in WA?
SafeWork Australia recommends retraining every 3 years for a First Aid Certificate. In addition, depending on your work position and the specific courses you have undertaken, it might be necessary to refresh annually.
Can a First Aid or CPR Course be Completed Online?
While our courses have online theory elements that can be completed at your leisure, both first aid and CPR require practical skills that can only be evaluated through face-to-face training and assessment activities. As such, our first aid training Midland courses must be completed on-site.
What Pathways to Further Learning Do These Courses Provide?
Completing a CPR course is part of a first aid certification. As such, a first aid qualification can be considered further learning from a CPR course. Advanced resuscitation qualifications are another example.
Completing a first aid course opens up several avenues of further learning in the field of first aid. These advanced first aid courses include:

How Are These Courses Assessed?
These courses are assessed through practical training and assessment activities.
First aid courses test your first aid response knowledge and first aid skills. Skills you will be tested on include your ability to provide basic emergency life support. There may also be a written evaluation.
CPR assessment consists entirely of being observed on your ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
