WHO NEEDS A FIRST AID COURSE?

Everyone must complete a first aid course. The importance of this cannot be stressed enough. By signing up for a first aid course, you can make a significant difference when it matters. Emergencies can occur anywhere, be it at work, on the street or any other place – at any time. Knowing first aid enables you to step in and offer help during crucial situations.

Every workplace needs to have access to first aid, not just medical professionals like doctors, nurses, and paramedics. First aid certificates can be beneficial for anyone, regardless of their profession.

It is crucial to know first aid and CPR. Medical emergencies can happen unexpectedly, and without these important and practical skills, you won’t be able to assist. During such situations, there is no time to search for instructions on how to perform first aid. You must already be familiar with it, and the only way to acquire this knowledge is by enrolling in a course.

If you have already completed a first aid course, it is recommended to consider taking further studies to ensure that your skills are always up-to-date and that you can confidently handle any first aid situation that may arise. Skills Training College offers various advanced first aid courses and child first aid courses to help you specialise and hone your skills.

CPR Course Newcastle

The official name for a CPR course is HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. This course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to identify cardiac emergencies and perform safe interventions.

Performing first aid involves several aspects, one of which is CPR. CPR is a specialised discipline that focuses on helping someone in cardiac arrest. A CPR course is suitable for individuals who already have first aid knowledge but require training in CPR or those who have a busy schedule and cannot commit to a full first aid course. By learning CPR, individuals can make a significant difference in emergencies.

When you enrol in a CPR course, you will learn the necessary steps to perform CPR effectively. You will also be taught mnemonic devices to help you remember the steps of CPR for a long time after the course completion. Additionally, you will learn about the differences in performing CPR for adults and children. After the 90-minute face-to-face training course, you will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment, which will prove your newly acquired skills and knowledge.

Skills Training College’s Newcastle CPR courses are conducted from our training venue at 294 Turton Rd, Broadmeadow.

Newcastle CPR Refresher Course

The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) recommends that individuals refresh their CPR training every twelve months to ensure that the critical skills remain second nature. It is important to have the necessary skills ingrained in your memory so that in case of an emergency where CPR is required, you can act quickly and effectively without struggling to remember what to do.

A CPR refresher course is the same as a regular CPR course in every regard. Courses last for 90 minutes, cost $39 per person, and are conducted from our training room at 294 Turton Rd, Broadmeadow.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

No, a first aid certificate does not expire. However, first aid is constantly changing and evolving, and as such it is strongly recommended that first aid refresher training be taken every three years to ensure that your skills and knowledge remain current.

Skills Training College offers refresher first aid courses in Newcastle to ensure your first aid experience never falls behind.

First Aid is a general procedure while CPR is a specific procedure. The first aid program trains you on how to manage emergencies with serious injuries. One of the courses included in CPR is how to deal with breathing or heart stoppages.

There are no prerequisites needed prior to the commencement of this course.

While our courses have online theory elements that can be completed at your leisure, both first aid and CPR require practical skills that can only be evaluated through face-to-face training and assessment activities. As such, our first aid training Newcastle courses must be completed on-site.

Completing a CPR course is part of a first aid certification. As such, a first aid qualification can be considered further learning from a CPR course. Advanced resuscitation qualifications are another example.

Completing a first aid course opens up several avenues of further learning in the field of first aid. These advanced first aid courses include:

  • HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting

  • HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in a remote or isolated site

  • HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid

  • HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy

  • HLTAID016 Manage first aid services and resources

Not all of these qualifications are available through Skills Training College.

These courses are assessed through practical training and assessment activities.

First aid courses test your first aid response knowledge and first aid skills. Skills you will be tested on include your ability to provide basic emergency life support. There may also be a written evaluation.

CPR assessment consists entirely of being observed on your ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
