First Aid Course Maitland

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is perfect for anyone wishing to learn the skills required to respond to emergencies, injuries, and life-threatening situations.

In this first aid course, you’ll learn various emergency first aid response skills such as cleaning and dressing wounds, proper usage of an Epi-Pen, the significance of the recovery position, basic emergency life support and effectively describing an emergency over the phone to assist emergency responders.

You’ll also learn how to safely manage the following first aid situations:

  • Vomiting
  • Choking
  • Asthma
  • Bleeding
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Shock
  • Broken bones
  • Dislocations, fractures, sprains, and strains

Our first aid certification courses offer three hours of instructor-led training, including readings, demonstrations, and practical training activities, followed by testing and evaluation. Upon your completion of the course, you will earn a nationally recognised first aid certificate that shows your newly acquired abilities and expertise.

WHO NEEDS A FIRST AID COURSE?

First aid is essential for everyone; its importance can’t be understated.

By completing a first aid course, you will be ready to help when it is most necessary. First aid situations can happen anywhere and at any moment, including the workplace, the street, schools, and homes. Knowing first aid allows you to step in and assist others when it is most needed.

HLTAID011 Provide First aid is essential to workers in all industries, not just in the medical field. Situations demanding first aid can occur anywhere. There is no profession in which a first aid certification is not useful.

If you have completed the HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course, consider other first aid education alternatives to ensure your skills remain at their peak. Skills Training College offers a variety of courses to help you improve your first aid and CPR knowledge.

CPR Course Maitland

HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation teaches students how to recognise cardiac arrest and effectively assist by performing resuscitation techniques.

Being able to perform CPR is part of first aid training already, but it is also a separate discipline that needs to be renewed every year.

A CPR training course is ideal for those who are already familiar with first aid but lack CPR skills, or who cannot fit a full course into their busy schedule, but want to help in emergencies.

Attending a CPR training course teaches you how to do CPR on adults and children, as well as memorisation methods for long-term retention of the necessary skills. After completing the 90-minute in-person course, you will be given a nationally recognised statement of attainment.

Maitland CPR Refresher Course

Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines advise that HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation training should be done at a minimum on an annual basis to ensure that your knowledge of CPR techniques is retained and kept up to date.

Many employers require their staff to complete regular refresher training to comply with their first aid policies.

If you ever find yourself in an emergency when you need to perform CPR, you need those skills to come to you naturally.

Enrolment & Eligibility

Skills Training College’s first aid and CPR courses require no prerequisites to be completed before attending. There are no academic or professional requirements to enrol. However, all students must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Basic written and verbal English skills are required for the use of the course materials and to complete the training and assessment assignments.
  • The minimum age for students is 18. Younger students can enrol with the permission of their parents or guardians.
  • Students require a Unique Student Identifier (USI) number. If you’ve previously studied, you probably already have one, and if you can’t remember it, it’s easy to find by searching online.
  • Basic levels of fitness and physical competence.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Though first-aid skills should be updated, a first-aid certificate will not technically expire. However, because first aid procedures are always evolving, it is strongly recommended that you receive refresher training every three years to ensure that your skills and knowledge are current.

Skills Training College offers refresher training in first aid to ensure that your knowledge is up to date for these very reasons.

A CPR certificate does not expire, but it should be updated regularly with refresher training. The Australian Resuscitation Council advises CPR retraining every year.

If your first aid qualification has been stolen or lost, contact us and we will walk you through the process of obtaining a new one.

Many employers value employee first aid courses because they prove that they can handle emergencies. 6. Prepare for emergencies: Emergencies can take place wherever they occur. Getting prepared for anything is essential.

Completing a first aid course provides many opportunities for additional learning in the field of first aid. Additional training options include remote first aid and first aid for education/care settings. Examples include:

  • HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting.
  • HLTAID013 Provide First Aid at a remote or isolated site.
  • HLTAID014 Provide advanced first aid.
  • HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy.

Please note: Not all of these qualifications are provided by Skills Training College.

Practical examinations are performed to assess first-aid training. After completing your face-to-face training, you will be evaluated on your competence and knowledge of first-aid procedures, as well as your ability to respond effectively in a realistic first-aid scenario. There may also be a written assessment.

The CPR assessment is based purely on your ability to do CPR under supervision.

Skills Training College offers a variety of nationally accredited training. In addition to first aid, we offer instruction in the areas of hospitality, healthcare, security, and construction, among many others. These are offered from our Maitland area location, and our other NSW locations, and some are even available through online learning.

To browse the courses we offer, click the button at the top of our page. We provide thorough training tailored to almost any individual’s professional development needs.

Everyone, not only emergency responders or healthcare workers, should complete both a CPR and first aid certification. Understanding these critical life-saving skills allows anybody to make a major impact when a catastrophic event occurs.

Emergency situations can arise at any time and anywhere. We strongly encourage first aid training to ensure everyone is equipped to help in any first aid crisis. In addition to the evident life-saving skills learned during a first aid or CPR course, undertaking training communicates your dedication and compassion to potential employers, and can help open doors to further professional growth.
