WHO NEEDS A FIRST AID COURSE?

Taking a first aid course is essential for anyone and everyone. It’s importance cannot be overstated. By taking a first aid course, you will be able to make a difference when it really matters. Emergencies can occur in the workplace, out on the street, or at any place or any time you can think of. Knowing first aid puts the power to step in and assist during times of crisis in your hands.

First aid and CPR knowledge are essential. A medical emergency can occur at any time, and you can’t help if you don’t know these vital and practical skills. In these moments, you don’t have the time to look up how to perform first aid, you need to already know, and the only way to know is by taking a course.

If you have already completed a first aid course consider taking further studies to ensure your skills are at their peak and that you can truly step into any first aid situation. Our other specialties include our advanced first aid course and child first aid courses.

CPR Course Perth

The official name for a CPR course is HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. This course is designed to teach students how to recognise when a cardiac emergency is occurring, as well as the steps necessary to intervene safely.

CPR is one aspect performing first aid, but it is its own discipline. The narrower focus of a CPR course is for anyone who already knows first aid but does not know CPR, or who does not have enough time to fit a full first aid course into their busy schedule but who still wants to be able to make a difference in an emergency.

When you take a CPR course you’ll learn the steps required to perform CPR, mnemonic devices to ensure you remember the steps of CPR for years after completing your course, and the differences in performing CPR for adults and for children. After your 90 minute face-to-face training course, you’ll be rewarded with a nationally recognised statement of attainment, proving your newfound skills and knowledge.

Perth CPR Refresher Course

The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) strongly recommends that CPR training be retaken every twelve months to ensure that the critical skills remain second nature. If you ever find yourself in an emergency situation where CPR is required, you don’t want to struggle to remember what to do, you need the skills to be innate.

A CPR refresher course is the same as a regular CPR course in every regard. Courses last for 90 minutes, cost $39 per person, and are conducted from our training room at 195 / 196 Adelaide Terrace
in Perth’s CBD.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

No, a first aid certificate does not expire. However, first aid is constantly changing and evolving, and as such it is strongly recommended that first aid refresher training be taken every three years to ensure that your skills and knowledge remain current.

Skills Training College offers refresher first aid courses in Perth to ensure your first aid experience never falls behind.

Like a first aid certificate, CPR training does not technically expire but should be updated regularly with refresher training. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends taking CPR refresher training every twelve months.

If your first aid certification is lost or stolen, simply reach out to us and we can provide you with the steps that you need to take in order to receive a replacement.

Yes, STC provides flexible online learning options for those unable to attend face to face instruction. Click on the Courses tab to explore these options further.

These courses are assessed through practical assessment activities.

At the conclusion of a first aid course we test your first aid response knowledge and first aid skills. After completing your face-to-face training, skills you will be tested on include your ability to provide basic emergency life support and render medical assistance, your ability and knowledge of first aid techniques, your emergency first aid response skills, and your ability to provide first aid assistance in a realistic first aid emergency. There may also be written evaluation.

CPR assessment consists entirely of being observed on your ability to perform CPR in line with Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines under supervision.

Anyone and everyone should take a first aid or CPR course, not just medical professionals. Knowing these vital, life-saving skills can help you make a real difference on the scene of an emergency.

Outside of medical and healthcare professionals, a first aid or CPR certificate is particularly beneficial to anyone who works with children, whether it’s at home or in one of the country’s education sectors.

Emergencies can occur anywhere, even around the office. As such, we also highly recommend first aid workplace training to ensure you’re ready to assist in a first aid situation, no matter what the emergency is. First Aid and CPR training shows your commitment and passion to your workplace and can help open pathways to continuing professional development.

Completing a CPR course is part of a first aid certification. As such, a first aid qualification can be considered further learning from a CPR course. Advanced resuscitation qualifications are another example.

Completing a first aid course opens up several avenues of further learning in the field of first aid. These advanced first aid courses include:

  • HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting

  • HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in a remote or isolated site

  • HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid

  • HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy

  • HLTAID016 Manage first aid services and resources

Not all of these qualifications are available through Skills Training College.
