FIRST AID COURSE YARRAVILLE

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

Learning how to handle accidents, injuries, and situations when someone needs basic medical care is made easy with a HLTAID011 Provide First Aid training course.

Your certified first aid instructor will guide you through the procedures of cleaning and bandaging wounds, applying an Epi-Pen, the importance of the recovery position, providing basic emergency life support, and effectively reporting the situation over the phone to the response team. Through our first-aid training classes, you will acquire the following skills:

  • Vomiting
  • Choking
  • Asthma
  • Bleeding
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Shock
  • Broken bones
  • Dislocation, fractures, sprains, and strains

After three hours of trainer-led, face-to-face training which comprises readings, lectures, demonstrations, and practical training exercises, your first aid certification course will culminate with a written exam and a practical evaluation. After which you will be the owner of a nationally accepted first-aid certificate proving your newly learned skills.

WHO NEEDS A FIRST AID COURSE?

The value of learning first aid cannot be stressed enough; everyone should do so. Taking a comprehensive first aid course will prepare you to assist someone when they most need it. First aid can be required anywhere at any time, including at home, at work, on the street, or in schools.

No matter your profession, you can benefit from obtaining a first aid certificate. Even those people working outside of the field of healthcare should be trained in first aid.

CPR Course YARRAVILLE

The full name of this course is HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. Students in this class will learn how to spot someone who is having a cardiac attack and give them the right resuscitation.

You can learn CPR as part of first aid training, but it can also be learnt separately as it is its own field. With its shorter length and simpler focus, a CPR course is great if you want to help in an emergency but are too busy to take a full first aid training course.

By taking a CPR training course, you will learn how to treat unconscious people of all ages, including the differences between how to treat adults and children. After the 90-minute in-person lesson, you will get an official certificate that can be used anywhere in Australia.

YARRAVILLE CPR Refresher Course

The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends that people retake CPR training once a year to keep their skills up to date.

You should be able to do CPR without thinking about it if you ever need to in an emergency, and refresher training can help you make sure that the skills stay natural.

Enrolment & Eligibility

There are very few requirements to take first aid and CPR classes. There are no academic or work requirements to enrol, only the following basic conditions:

  • Basic spoken and written English is needed to understand the course materials, the lessons, and the assessment tasks.
  • Students must be at least 18 years old. Younger students can enrol as long as their parents or guardians give them permission.
  • Every student needs to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Those who have studied before should already have one. If you have but don’t remember your USI, it’s easy to find by searching online.
  • A basic level of physical fitness

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Even though a first-aid certificate does not technically expire, it is still recommended to get refresher training every three years. As first aid is always changing and evolving, by training every three years you can make sure your skills, information, and certification are up to date.

A CPR certificate does not technically expire, but it needs to be kept up to date by getting regular training. The Australian Resuscitation Council suggests that people take CPR refresher training once a year.

Even after you complete a first aid or CPR course, there are many ways to keep developing your skills. In addition, you can get training in remote first aid and first aid for education settings. Here are some more examples:

  • HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting.
  • HLTAID013 Provide First Aid at a remote or isolated site.
  • HLTAID014 provides advanced first aid.
  • HLTAID015 advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy.
  • HLTAID016 Manage first aid services and resources.

Not all of these qualifications are provided by Skills Training College.

First aid training is tested through practical assessment. In addition to your knowledge of first aid, your evaluation will also test how well you can handle an emergency first aid situation in the real world. There may also be a written assessment portion

CPR is assessed solely through practical assessment under the observation of your trainer.

Skills Training College offers a variety of qualifications that are accepted across the country. We teach more than just first aid and CPR. For example, we teach courses that help people find work  in construction, security, hospitality, and healthcare.

Everyone should know how to do CPR, first aid, or both, no matter what they do for a living. Anyone can make a big difference in a medical emergency if they know these important and life-saving skills.

Because emergencies can happen at any time, we strongly recommend that anyone who wants to be able to help get trained in first aid and CPR. Passing a first aid or CPR course not only teaches important life-saving skills, but it also shows potential employers that you are dedicated and caring, and it can lead to career growth.
