The official course designator is HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and it is designed to teach students how to recognise a cardiac emergency and the necessary steps to intervene safely.
CPR is a specific aspect of first aid, but it is a discipline on its own. The HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation course is ideal for those who already know first aid but not CPR, or for those who have limited time but still want to make a difference in an emergency.
In the HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation course, you’ll learn how to confidently perform CPR, mnemonic devices to help remember the steps for years to come, and the differences between performing CPR on adults and children. After completing the 90-minute face-to-face program, you will receive a nationally recognised certification of attainment, demonstrating your new skills and knowledge.
Did you know that the Australian Resuscitation Council strongly recommends retaking the HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation training every year? It’s a great way to keep your resuscitation skills fresh. Many workplaces even require this yearly refresher to stay compliant with first aid regulations. In an emergency, you want to react quickly and confidently, without second-guessing yourself. For a small time investment, a simple refresher course can ensure your skills are always sharp.

Technically, no, a first aid certificate doesn’t have an expiration date. But, first aid techniques and guidelines are always changing. That’s why it’s a good idea to take a refresher course every three years. It helps keep your skills sharp and your knowledge up-to-date.
At Skills Training College, we offer refresher courses to make sure you’re always in the know with the latest first aid practices.
If you’ve lost your first aid or CPR certificate, don’t worry. Just get in touch with us, and we’ll help you through the process of getting a replacement.
At Skills Training College, you can start the theoretical parts of these courses online and go at your own pace. But, to finish the program, you’ll need to do some face-to-face assessments. This is true for both accredited first aid and CPR courses.
For first aid, you’ll go through practical training where you’ll be tested on your knowledge and skills. After the in-person training, you’ll show how well you can provide emergency life support on adult and child manikins and use first aid techniques in realistic situations. There will also be a brief written test.
For CPR, the focus is entirely on your ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, which will be observed during the assessment.
Anyone and everyone should complete an accredited first aid training course, not just medical professionals. Knowing these vital, life-saving first aid skills can help you make a real difference on the scene of a medical emergency.
Outside of medical and healthcare professionals, a first aid certificate is especially advantageous for anyone who works with children, whether it’s at home or in one of the country’s education sectors.
Emergencies can happen anywhere, even around the office. As such, we also strongly recommend first aid workplace training to ensure you’re ready to assist with a quality first aid response no matter what the situation or emergency is. First aid and CPR training showcases your commitment and passion to your workplace, and can help open pathways to further professional development.
Completing an accredited CPR course is an integral component of a first aid certification. As such, a first aid qualification can be considered further learning from a CPR course. Advanced resuscitation qualifications are another example.
In this way, enrolling in an emergency first aid course opens up several avenues of further learning in the field of first aid. Advanced education opportunities are available in the fields of remote first aid, and first aid for education and care settings. Specific advanced first aid courses include:
HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting
HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in a remote or isolated site

HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
